Book Review: The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

The Blurb:
My name was Salmon, like the fish; first name, Susie. I was fourteen when i was murdered on December 6, 1973. My murderer was a man form our own neighborhood. My mother likes his border flowers, and my father talked to him one about fertilizer.

This is Susie Salmon speaking from heaven- which looks alot like her school playground, with the good kind of swing sets, counsellors to help newcomers adjust, and friends to room with. Everything Susie wants appears as soon as she thinks of it- except the one thing she wants most: to be back with the people she loved on earth.

Watching from her place in heaven, Susie sees her happy, suburban family devastated by her death, isolated even from one another as they each try to cope with their terrible loss alone. Over the years, her friends and siblings grow up, fall in love, do all the things she never had the chance to do herself.

But life is not quite finished with Susie yet...

After seeing the preview for the film Lovely Bones in the cinema I instantly wanted to read the book as i thought the story seemed quite good. I got home and told my mum that I wanted to read the book and as a child she had read it herself and she really liked it, also quite a few of my friends thought that this book was amazing. So once i finally borrowed it off someone i was really excited to read it, the first few pages got me gripped but for some reason i began not to enjoy it.
Why? I dont know, it in my opnion was a brilliantly written book with a great story line but it bored me, so i dont really know why im reviewing this book, if you read any other reviews on this book they will probably say something like i found this book amazing, so dont let this review put you off, I say you should read it and basically ignore my opnions on the book.
I give this book at 5/10

Review: Girl,Missing by Sophie Mckenzie

The Blurb:

Lauren is adopted and eager to know more about her mysterious past. But when she discovers she may have been snatched from an American family as a baby, her life suddenly feels like a sham.
Why will no one answer her questions?
How can she find her biological mum and dad?
And are her adoptive parents really responsible for kidnapping her?
Lauren runs away from her family to find out the truth, but her journey takes her into more and more danger- as she discovers that the people who abducted her are prepared to do anything to keep her silent...

For a while i have been waiting to read Girl,Missing and i was unable to find it till i came across it on ebay and straight away i was asking my mum to get it for me.
I have read a few of Sophie Mckenzies books before, so I kind of expected it to not be brilliantly written as most people expect books to be written these days, but i still enjoyed it. It made a change from the supernatural/science fiction books which have recently taken over the book community.
In my opnion i would have to say it is mainly aimed at children who are thinking about starting to read Young Adult books, but don't let that stop you from reading it, it's quite a quick read being only 282 pages and has got big writing. But i would have to say that despite the fact it may not be the best written book, the emotions of the main character Lauren are felt deeply by the reader.
I give this book a 6/10
